Adam Hernandez (he/him) - 2023 DEI Grant Awardee - Columbus, OH

Adam is a self-taught professional artist, muralist, and designer and a passionate advocate for the Latine artist voice. Originally from the Bronx, New York, Adam’s work speaks to the relationships between his Puerto Rican heritage, the graffiti that covered the streets of the South Bronx during his childhood, and his interest in ancient mythology.

Specifically, Adam has recently been exploring images related to Vejigantes, which are celebratory masks and a part of his Puerto Rican heritage. Adam’s goal with this exploration is to honor mask wearing tradition while also reinterpreting it through his own artistic lens. Each of Adam’s masks are bold and colorful while representing themes of personal identity.
